In recent years, there has been a marked growth in scientific and industrial interest in Business Process Management (BPM) methodologies and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. While both fields have advanced independently, an important question arises: to what extent are they complementary, and how do they intersect? Furthermore, what research challenges arise when integrating these domains? This chapter presents the results of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) aimed at illustrating the current state and maturity of IoT-aware BPM approaches. Through a rigorous analysis based on specific research questions, this chapter evaluates the existing literature on IoT-enhanced BPM, focusing on its alignment with various stages of the process life cycle, the thematic areas it addresses, its application across different domains, and its capacity to meet ongoing research challenges. The chapter also proposes future research directions, highlighting gaps and opportunities within IoT-aware BPM.
