The Treatment Evaluation of Airbag Grouting Technology in Buried Tunnel Collapse

Collapse as one of the most dangerous geological disasters in tunnel construction, causes enormous damage and significant economic losses, which is needed to be solved securely and efficiently. Based on a case history located in Fujian, China, this paper proposes a new treatment method, i.e., airbag grouting technology to solve the tunnel collapse. This technology can realize the constructions of collapsed cavity filling and tunnel excavation simultaneously, which reduces the construction period on the premise of ensuring tunnel safety. Through the numerical calculation method, the influences of airbag grouting on the deformation and force of the supporting system and surrounding rock are analyzed. The results show that the uplift deformation of surrounding rock around the tunnel and supporting system decrease continuously, but an increasing settlement of ground surface is observed with the increase of grouting volume. With the increase of grouting volume, the force of the supporting system increases, and the maximum value occurs at the position of 7–8 m away from the excavation face. The relevant calculation results and conclusions demonstrate that the airbag grouting technology can ensure the safety, smooth progress of construction and can be applied in the similar collapse cases of tunnel engineering.
