According to the chapter authors, Bjorn Harsman and Folke Snickers, Åke Andersson’s scientific and societal contribution needs to be seen in light of both the period of his career and what he aimed to create. Åke had an unusually strong ambition to make practical use of his skills. In this way, he was the ultimate regional planner of his time. The C-society became a signature for Åke, which was a success when it was launched. Åke’s commitment to culture and the arts, and music in particular, should not be underestimated as a driving force for those who adopted his paradigm. Åke’s strongest policy involvements related to the regions of Stockholm, Jönköping, and Öresund. His influence in relation to the establishment of new regional universities was formidable, spanning across all parts of the country. Åke’s first and foremost scientific interest was macroeconomics, even if he began to specialize in regional economics already in the early 1970s. Åke was much more interested in doctrinal history and economic history compared to typical economists. The former interest may have been sparked when he read Schumpeter during his studies, and the latter when he studied Pirenne and Heckscher. Åke was always extremely interested in mathematics, but he was mostly self-taught. Above all, he was fascinated by complexity and synergetics. He kept this interest and the intuitive understanding of the mathematics of complexity throughout his life. It resonated with his ideas of how modern society works. Surprisingly, he was not particularly interested in entrepreneurship, even though he was full-fledged as an academic entrepreneur himself.
