Geophysical Monitoring System for Landslide-Prone Areas Using OhmPi and ESP32 Integration
摘要
Landslides are the most frequent natural hazards in mountainous regions, posing significant threats to property and lives in the Himalayas and the Western Ghats of India. The Western Ghats rank as India’s second most landslide-prone area, following the Himalayas. Effective monitoring of landslide-prone areas, particularly in regions susceptible to extreme weather events like the Western Ghats in India, necessitates advanced geophysical and environmental monitoring systems. Conventional techniques often lack the temporal and geographical resolution required to thoroughly analyze subsurface dynamics. We introduce an integrated geophysical monitoring system built on the OhmPi platform, enhanced with the capabilities of the ESP32 microcontroller. This device enables precise three-dimensional imaging of subsurface conditions through measurements of Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Spontaneous Potential (SP), and Induced Polarization (IP). Additionally, it includes external environmental sensors for temperature, pore water pressure, rainfall, and soil moisture, providing a comprehensive monitoring strategy. This technology enhances the effectiveness of early warning systems by facilitating real-time data collection, processing, and transmission over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Tested and prototyped in landslide-prone areas, the integrated system shows promise for improved risk management and community safety in high-risk regions.
