Use of Battery Storage Systems in Integrated Power Systems with Large Wind Power

A mathematical model of frequency and power regulation processes in integrated power systems with wind power plants (WPPs) and battery storage systems has been developed and tested. This model allows for the analysis of power system regulation modes and the formation of the most effective regulation laws. It has been established that the introduction of large-capacity WPPs into the generation structure of integrated power systems can lead to unacceptable frequency deviations in the system. It has been proven that frequency and power stabilization in integrated power systems (IPS) with large WPPs can be ensured by introducing battery storage systems into the IPS structure, with capacities comparable to the installed capacity of the WPP. Simulation results of the operating modes of these power systems showed that the accuracy of frequency and power regulation achieved exceeds the regulatory accuracy required for the European Union’s ENTSO-E power system.
