Participatory Territorial Planning (PTP) is a methodological approach that fosters collective analysis and intervention on socio-environmental issues with a spatial and temporal perspective. Rooted in Participatory Action Research and sociopraxis, and enhanced by participatory GIS, PTP integrates local and academic knowledge. In the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán region of Mexico’s dry tropical forests, PTP has strengthened sustainable soil resource management. It enables community participation in decision-making, addressing land degradation and biodiversity loss. The process has resulted in land-use plans, participatory reforestation, and sustainable agricultural practices. PTP empowers communities to identify challenges and implement context-specific solutions. It fosters collaboration among local actors, government, and academia. The approach supports soil conservation, food security, and biodiversity protection. Overall, PTP offers a replicable model for sustainable land management in ecologically sensitive regions.
