The pollution from potentially toxic elements (PTE) in mine tailings is a persistent issue that degrades the quality of the atmosphere, water resources, crops, and soils, posing a significant threat to the well-being of all living beings, including human health and rural livelihoods, as these toxic elements enter food webs. In Mexico, 11% of the national territory is designated for mining activities, currently exist 1558 active mines (CAMIMEX, 2018). The scale of ecosystem destruction caused by this industry is immense, demanding immediate attention and action to restore these systems.
