In this chapter, the advantages and limitations of using modern routine outcome monitoring and feedback (ROM) systems and their clinical support tools (CSTs) in ongoing psychotherapeutic treatments are described with the example of the Greifswald Psychotherapy Navigation System (GPNS). Firstly, the development of our monitoring system in Greifswald is highlighted, focusing on recent advances and important strategic aspects in the technical as well as clinical implementation of the system. Secondly, the enhancement of ongoing treatments with the GPNS is illustrated through a case example of a woman diagnosed with persistent depressive disorder and social anxiety at our outpatient clinic. Lastly, the chances and potential barriers of using feedback systems in this specific case as well as in general are discussed. Further insights are drawn from a recent qualitative study exploring the perspectives of therapeutic dyads regarding their experiences with the GPNS.
