This reflection is predicated on the existence of unproductive divisions between some academic and administrative staff which are linked to group identity rather than personal antagonism. This is not to suggest that medical schools are gladiatorial arenas of academic and administrative conflict. There are many examples where academic and administrative staff are mutually respectful and work in tandem to achieve goals.
