This chapter introduces ayóm-ayómic political order. As mentioned at the introduction of this book, ayóm-ayóm is a Binisaya concept which means using local and readily available resources to make something work. It occurs when a shock is protracted and high, the support system is low, and resources are insufficient, resulting in resource scarcity. One ayóm-ayómic case in our family occurred when Tatay (grandfather) converted a Japanese bomb nozzle into a lusóng (mortar and pestle) for mashing bananas.
