Further Writings About Cornish
摘要
This chapter analyses the presence of Cornish, or discourses concerning the language, in travel writing, memoires, novels, non-fiction, and histories of Cornwall written during the period 1777–1904. These writings include both published works and manuscript sources as well as contemporary articles published in the journals produced by the new institutions and learned societies established in Cornwall during the nineteenth century. The chapter considers who was writing about the Cornish language at this time, their motivations for doing so, and how these writings may reflect the status of the language at the time. The chapter also discusses what the writings reveal about the existence of further speakers of Cornish.
