The DOCOMOMO foundation is a world leader in protecting architecture of the Modern Movement, carrying out both research and advisory activities for organizations responsible for heritage protection at the national and international level. Conserving this heritage has to be undertaken from a modern perspective, going further than the simple definition of a monument in order to achieve social appropriation. Currently, examples of paradigmatic interventions are scarce, with The Getty Foundation, through the Keeping It Modern (KIM) Program, being a pioneer in the development of conservation proposals for twentieth century architecture. The aim of this program is to provide strategies designed to attend to the particularities of modern circumstances and, simultaneously, to establish a repository of cases to help professionals and communities conserve twentieth century buildings. This article analyzes the exemplary contributions of the aforementioned institutions and is illustrated using the example of the Auditorium of the Workers’ University of Cheste, included in the records of DOCOMOMO Ibérico.
