Online education has become increasingly available, sophisticated, and affordable in the post COVID-19 era. In addition, learner appetite and expectation for online learning experiences have increased exponentially in health professional education (HPE). As such, health professional educators should be considering in what ways their curricula can better incorporate online techniques and how to do this in a way that authentically leverages the natural strengths of the new medium rather than simply porting learning activities that were designed for face-to-face settings into an online medium. This chapter outlines how health professional educators can go about (re)designing health education curricula to be fit-for-purpose for online education. A ground-up method of curriculum development is advocated and described using Kern’s 6-step model of curriculum development, with a particular focus on the implementation stage which has numerous specific aspects that are unique to online curriculum design. In addition, we introduce core pedagogical considerations in online curriculum design including modularity, sequencing of learning activities and use of the Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. The chapter then concludes by outlining the practicalities of online curriculum development and describing some of the tips and tricks that educators should know to successfully navigate this process.

摘要
