Broken (fractured) teeth account for 30%–40% of all dental injuries. The most common causes include falls, contact sports, automobile accidents and foreign bodies striking the teeth. Some or all of the visible tooth can be broken and breaks can also occur beneath the gum line. The pulp (nerve) can be exposed in the fracture line. There can be some bleeding from the gums and injuries to other parts of the face that may need treatment.
