In-Depth Coverage of E-Waste Sources, Characteristics, and Environmental Impact
摘要
Electronic waste (e-waste) has grown in recent years due to the increase in electronic gadget usage. Wherever it proliferates, there is a detrimental effect on the ecosystem, plants, animals, and human beings. The regulation of e-waste abandonment has been lacklustre and hence has polluted the ecosystem. The pollutants contributing to e-waste include lithium, lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium, arsenic, and nickel, which are heavy metal pollutants in the environment that create various kinds of diseases. These hazardous chemicals metamorphose the ecosystem into an unsustainable environment for the survival of flora and fauna. Apart from the flora and fauna, this also coerces humans to orbit the environment without being aware of the potential threat, which ruins life at a snail’s pace. To put a stop to the contamination of these pollutants against the adverse effect on human beings and the environment, it is essential to be aware of the essential quality or attribute of various unpredictable materials in e-waste so that people will recognize the detrimental effect of e-waste treated in uncontrolled conditions. This chapter will focus on the sources, characteristics, burden, environmental impacts, and health impacts of e-waste.
