This study investigates the adoption of AI technology by Saudi government employees through an extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) model. The new model comprises factors like performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, Facilitating conditions, price value, and personal innovativeness. Data analysis from 117 respondents used Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. In contrast with usual findings, the results demonstrate that the original UTAUT2 constructs (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions) do not significantly influence the adoption of AI within this population. Conversely, personal innovativeness stands out as a key determinant. This study enhances the public sector innovation literature by questioning established UTAUT2 assumptions and highlighting the essential role of individual innovativeness in adopting AI technologies. This research establishes a basis for further investigation of the influence of contextual and cultural factors on technology adoption in the evolving field of AI.
