Incorporating Social Responsibility in Artificial Intelligence Systems: A Framework of Essential Aspects
摘要
The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence systems has given birth to immense developments across various sectors. Simultaneously, this development provides a way for critical ethical and societal challenges to arise, including ensuring data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the opacity of AI decision-making processes that are eroding public confidence and fostering skepticisms. Yet, there is a gap in the literature on how social responsibilities can be integrated into the AI system. This paper therefore puts forward an integrated framework for incorporating social responsibility into AI systems based on three most important dimensions, namely Usability, Trustworthiness, and Compatibility. Such a non-functional requirement for AI development will lead an organization towards mitigating various risks regarding discrimination, intrusion into privacy, and ethical violations, which in general undermine public trust and inclusiveness. The framework has brought into perspective the need to consider AI not only as a tool but also in light of the significant ramifications the technology bears upon society. The present study contributes to the current debate on ethical AI through actionable recommendations that researchers, developers, and decision-makers may take into consideration in order to develop and deploy AI technologies in manners coherent with human values, enable sustainable development, and benefit the common good of humanity.
