Alpha-band power (7–13 Hz) has been shown to have a strong positive correlation with BCI performance. Henceforth, Alpha–band–power–enhancing interventions could be included in BCI training to improve BCI inefficiency. In this study, we focused on investigating the effects of Alpha music on the performance of eight healthy university students compared to the Control group. Electroencephalogram was recorded during two experimental sessions – training and evaluating. The BCI performance of both groups was assessed using the Macro F1 Score. Our results show that the Alpha group (59.91%) yielded no significant improvement in their BCI performance compared to the Control group (52.61%) with p = 0.056. Notably, the Alpha group demonstrated a clear discrimination PSDs between right-hand and left-hand tasks and a concentrated spectrogram in the Alpha-activity range at the Music stage. Alpha-band RP in the Alpha group showed a strong positive correlation with their BCI performance in three stages compared to the modest significant correlation in the Control group. Overall, our preliminary observations showed that the two-week Alpha-music intervention did not enhance the BCI performance but indicated a certain influence on Alpha-band distribution. Besides, the Alpha RP value was a potential parameter to modulate for BCI further improvement.
