High blood pressure or hypertension (HT) can lead to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In Vietnam, despite governmental awareness campaigns, HT becomes more prevalent and strikes younger and younger people. People’s nonchalance in controlling HT may be due to the lack of a convenient device and system to monitor blood pressure and track their condition. In this study, we introduce a telemedicine system that features a “made in Vietnam” wireless wearable device approved by the Ministry of Health for blood pressure monitoring. It is integrated into an IoT network that allows measuring the blood pressure and nurturing the patients. Such a user-friendly telemedicine system could make self-blood pressure monitoring more appealing. With this system, we conducted a pilot clinical research to evaluate the prevalence of HT, pre-HT, and heart rates of 101 teaching and administrative staff at Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City. Participants were diagnosed and categorized for HT in accordance with the 2022 Vietnam Heart Association Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertension. The preliminary HT profile of this community and recommendations for using this telemedicine system for more elaborate studies in the future are presented.
