This chapter covers the theme of health data pipelines through the reference of data flow between different health information systems aimed at achieving public health objectives. There is an impending need to move public health and other affiliated healthcare organizations away from data silos to data-driven infostructures. It starts with understanding key concepts, upon which fundamental knowledge of ongoing technological advancements can be further developed. The necessary situational assessments underpinning the definition of goals and objectives intended to direct healthcare organizations away from silos and closer to constructive interaction are critical in the planning of a tailored Data Governance Framework. In this regard, the documentation of a robust and stepwise plan is imperative for sustainable change, which is reinforced through the consolidation of internal resources and/or the acquisition of external ones. Ultimately, each healthcare system and organization must ensure the output is consistent, reliable, and serviceable to all stakeholders. In the context of the European Health Data Space, knowledge is fundamental to successful implementation and communication. Thus, this chapter aims to provide the basics for all healthcare professionals to better comprehend the terms, concepts, and available tools. All this information can dramatically change the public health sector and revolutionize healthcare systems worldwide.
