This chapter examines the diverse potential of edible insects, emphasizing their nutritional benefits, environmental advantages, cultural relevance, and potential for integration into modern culinary practices. Insects are highly nutritious, providing quality proteins, essential fatty acids, and readily absorbable micronutrients, making them a practical solution to issues such as malnutrition and unbalanced diets. When compared to conventional livestock, insects offer significant environmental benefits by requiring fewer natural resources, producing minimal greenhouse gas emissions, and efficiently converting feed into protein. Historically, edible insects have been a key component of diets in regions such as Africa, Asia, and Latin America, serving not only as a food source but also as a part of cultural heritage. These historical practices are being reimagined in contemporary contexts, blending traditional food systems with innovative culinary approaches. The growing acceptance of edible insects globally is driven by chefs, food scientists, and sustainability advocates, who challenge societal perceptions and promote entomophagy as a forward-thinking dietary option.
