Continuing Professional Development for Teachers in Intensive English Programs: A Journey of Growth and Innovation
摘要
This chapter explores the evolving landscape of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for English teachers in Intensive English Programs (IEPs), emphasizing the shift from isolated workshops to comprehensive, collaborative approaches. It discusses the importance of systematic CPD frameworks, such as the Cambridge English Teaching Framework, British Council CPD Framework, and EAQUALS Framework, in guiding teacher growth and improving student outcomes. The chapter examines best practices, including needs assessments, peer observations, mentoring, action research, and technology integration, while addressing challenges such as time constraints, resource limitations, and teacher motivation. Through case studies and examples, including lesson studies and reflective practices, the chapter highlights innovative CPD initiatives implemented in Turkish IEPs. It concludes with recommendations for enhancing CPD practices and proposes future research directions to explore the impact of emerging technologies, contextual adaptations, and teacher engagement on professional development.
