Assessing the IEP Landscape: Challenges and Opportunities in SFL Annual Reports
摘要
This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and opportunities faced by the administrators of Schools of Foreign Languages (SFLs) in Turkish tertiary education based on their 2022 and 2023 annual reports and a review of pertinent literature. Data were collected through document analysis, systematically examining the common disadvantages and advantages reported. A total of 68 annual activity reports from 44 universities were scrutinised. Key findings indicate that the most frequently reported challenges include infrastructure inadequacies, student preparedness issues, and coordination difficulties between academic and administrative staff. Conversely, strengths in management, academic staff quality, and physical infrastructure advancements were notable opportunities. The presence of well-equipped classrooms and library resources was particularly highlighted. This study emphasises the importance of administrators monitoring their work environment, understanding external contexts, and adopting updated trends. Recommendations include regular reviews of past challenges and successes and ensuring websites are updated with necessary documents for stakeholders. This analysis offers valuable insights for enhancing the management and operational efficiency of SFLs in Türkiye.
