This chapter analyzes the royalist imaginaries in the South Atlantic through the monarchical plans that took place in the Río de la Plata between 1808 and 1820. These plans underwent significant transformations in the two moments that structure the analysis. The first corresponds to reactions within the River Plate region to the crisis of the Spanish monarchy and the Cádiz constitutional experience (1808–1814); the second focuses on the period of the First Restoration (1814–1820). This chapter explores the deep connections fostered by Portuguese-Hispanic networks within the new geopolitical cartography generated by the crises of the Iberian monarchies in the territories of the former viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata.
