“Faunal Communities” by Brenda Iijima focuses on faunal appearances in the poethical oeuvre of Will Alexander. Alexander depicts an inclusive sphere of relations where a great number and variety of nonhuman animals appear, integrally connected in a holism of expression. This essay probes the ways that animals show up and create meanings within Alexander’s work. Animals are avatars, spiritual icons, auguries, foils, echoes, leitmotifs, hallucinatory images, personifications, totemic figures, similes of vibrational dissonance as much as they are realistic co-inhabitants of planet Earth.
