This collaborative poem by Tracie Morris and art by Jemman is also in response to the U. Penn “Poem Talk” discussion, “Strange Galvanics (PoemTalk #75)” in which Michael McGee, Kristen Gallagher, Al Filreis and Morris discussed Alexander’s poem, “Compound Hibernation.” (Morris also wrote an additional brief essay about the talk that’s in the journal Jacket2 summary of the conversation.) There is also a playfulness to Will Alexander’s name that was inspired by William Shakespeare’s playfulness with his own name, Will, in Shakespeare’s Sonnet #135 (“Whoever hath her wish, thou hast thy Will…). In Trumpeting Tracie incorporates both the words “Will” and “Alexander.”
