Fire-Resistant Materials and Construction: Designing for Climate Change

As wildfires become increasingly prevalent and severe due to climate change, there is a growing need for effective fire-resistant materials and construction practices. This chapter explores the importance of designing regarding climate change resilience within the framework of fire-resistant materials and construction. It discusses the characteristics of effective fire-resistant materials, including high heat resistance, non-combustibility, low thermal conductivity, chemical stability, insulation properties, and durability. It also examines various types of natural and synthetic fire-resistant materials and their advantages and limitations. Integrating fire-resistant materials and construction techniques into building design may help communities mitigate the risk of fire damage and enhance resilience to the effects of global warming. Moreover, it highlights the importance of proactive measures in adapting to evolving environmental challenges and underscores the role of fire-resistant materials in creating safer and more sustainable built environments.
