The chapter traces the evolution of terrorism in Chad in the late 1990s, which resulted from expansionist spillover from the Maghreb, through the Algerian Salafi Fundamentalist Group (GSPC) attacks to the present Boko Haram group. It thus identifies Boko Haram/ISWAP as the most active and dreaded terrorist group in Chad that has caused severe fatality and humanitarian disaster in the state. The chapter also identifies the efforts made by the Government of Chad, nationally, regionally, and internationally to contain the menace of terrorism within and outside the state. These include unilateral military offensives against the terrorist groups at respective national levels and multilateral offensive through the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), G-5 Sahel, and Operation Barkhane among others. The chapter therefore posits that even though these efforts have yielded tangible results in degrading Boko Haram/ISWAP within and outside the State, the emerging threats still pose significant threat to the State, especially in the Lake Chad Basin. It therefore made some key recommendations that will help in strengthening the operations of the MNJTF to stem the menace of terrorism in Chad and the Lake Chad Basin. Data for this study dwells largely on available secondary sources.

摘要
