Since March 2025, the ISWAP launched attacks in Wajiroko, Kumshe and Katafila areas of Southern Borno and by May, it attacked a military camp in Buni Gari under the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Operation HADIN-KAI in Nigeria’s northeast. Towns and villages in Marte, Dikwa and Rann experienced coordinated attacks of the ISWAP in May 2025. As the rainy season approached, the ISWAP resorted to the use of IEDs in the theatre area targeting the Borno town of Damboa and Konduga in May and June 2025. A coordinated attack on the 19 Brigade near Damboa was repelled by troops of Operation HADIN-KAI. Further act of terrorism was experienced on 18 June when ISWAP fighters attacked Nigerian Navy base at Lake Chad Fish Dam, Baga, Borno State targeting newly acquired swamp bogeys procured by the State Government to facilitate clearance operations in the water ways of the Lake Chad. A combination of land, air and maritime components of troops in Sector 3 Multinational Joint Task Force/Operation HADIN-KAI successfully repelled the attack while inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists. This attack is also linked to a retaliation of the ISWAP over the killing of its commander, Abu Fatima by troops of Operation HADIN-KAI three weeks earlier.
