This chapter analyzes Barbie, tu revista, fundamentally as a historically located and complex cultural product, traversed by the market that creates, institutes, promotes and transforms -in a dynamic and never a linear process- cultural practices. Although very similar publications circulated in various Latin American countries, I focus on the Argentine-Chilean edition in the late 1980s and early 1990s of the twentieth century. This writing assumes the methodology of historical research in the intersectionality of gender, consumption, and age and pays attention to studies that have dealt with Barbie from a gender perspective, “girl culture” and the theme of pre-adolescence (tween and girl culture) in articulation with cultural studies and the history of childhood in Latin America and Argentina. Through different sections, including “photo-adventures,” correspondence and music, and with Barbie as coordinator, the first objective of this writing is to investigate how the magazine was a vehicle to include readers in the growing globalization. The second objective is to identify how Barbie, tu revista recognized and gave rise, in Argentina, to a female space with its own tastes, particular needs and specific demands that will be identified as “preadolescent.“

摘要
