This chapter will answer the question: “What are the motivations, perspectives, and other key factors influencing individuals’ involvement in human trafficking for the sex industry and domestic labour in Indonesia?” As human trafficking is often regarded mainly as a transnational organised crime, financial gain is seen as the major reason why people traffic others. In some media and government reports, traffickers are often depicted as criminals making a billion dollars profit a year. However, some research suggest that this is not always true, especially in developing countries where traffickers earn minimal profits. This chapter seeks to gain an improved understanding of the motivation and key factors of someone committed or supported human trafficking for domestic labour and sex industry in Indonesia. It highlights the fact that human trafficking in Indonesia are not solely driven by the pursuit of large profits but are often influenced by a range of economic, social, and cultural factors.
