Do Malaysian Car Users’ Perceived Usefulness and Environmental Knowledge Matter When Evaluating Electric Vehicles?
摘要
To date, electric vehicles (EVs) have received much attention among Malaysian consumers. With strong market potential, many foreign car manufacturers have extended their presence and operation in Malaysia. However, incentives to promote the usage of EVs in Malaysia are decreasing, influencing the purchase intention among Malaysian car users when evaluating potential EVs. Hence, this study aims to develop and test an extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model with perceived usefulness and environmental knowledge on the purchase intention among Malaysian car users. Specifically, this study examines the influence of TPB constructs with perceived usefulness and environmental knowledge on the purchase intention of EVs. The results demonstrated that all the TPB constructs positively affect users’ intention to purchase EVs excluding attitude. Environmental knowledge affects attitude positively. However, perceived usefulness's influence on attitude was insignificant. In brief, perceived usefulness and environmental knowledge were essential in evaluating EVs among Malaysian car users. Finally, this study presents the discussion and implications of the survey at the end of the paper.
