This chapter examines the legal and institutional reforms in the Republic of North Macedonia, focusing on the period before and after the Ohrid Framework Agreement. It explores how these reforms have shaped the country’s political and social landscapes, addressing their role in fostering stability and reconciliation in a post-conflict setting. Special attention is given to the implications of the Law of Amnesty and Lustration, analyzing their impact on accountability, justice, and societal trust. The chapter incorporates data from interviews with key stakeholders, civil society, and academia to provide empirical insights. This qualitative data was systematically analyzed and visualized using NVivo software, allowing for a nuanced representation of patterns, themes, and perspectives. The integration of visual tools enriches the analysis, clarifying the complexities and interconnections within the reform processes. This chapter comprehensively explains North Macedonia’s transitional journey by bridging historical context, legal analysis, and empirical findings. It underscores the challenges and opportunities of implementing legal and institutional reforms in a divided society and highlights lessons that may inform similar processes in other transitional contexts.
