Creativity has often been identified as one of human’s “superpowers.” Creativity scholars point to it as an innate skill that can also be nurtured, taught, and enhanced. We turn to creativity when faced with complex or vexing problems. However, more and more, people are looking to artificial intelligence, and in particular generative artificial intelligence for answers. This chapter looks at implications for creativity practice and study. It has led to examining the long-held definition of creativity (novelty that is useful) and incorporating other aspects, such as authenticity and intentionality (Runco in Journal of Creativity, 33[3], 2023). This then separates AI creativity from human creativity. However, it also leads to co-creativity, and the exploration of how generative AI could enhance human creativity. Too much dependence on AI may lead to reduced human creativity, and reduced diversity in solutions to problems. By decreasing the practice of creativity by humans, AI dependence may also lead to decreased creative abilities. Higher education has a role in ensuring that human creativity does not become a lost art.

摘要
