With roots dating to 1663, Université Laval is the oldest French speaking tertiary institution in North America and, within Canada, a leading research center. In 2020, during the global COVID-19 pandemic, Laval`s management group created the Graduate Micro Certificate in Creativity, Innovation and HR Leadership (GM-CIHRL). The GM-CIHRL is intended to cultivate student creativity. Its principal goal is to develop HR professionals as problem solvers, specifically to assist myriad workplace stakeholders effectively address, what is described in literature, as complex problems. The new program contains four graduate courses, each of three credits (two mandatory courses and two optional courses). To be eligible for admission, students must hold a bachelor’s degree in industrial relations or in Management specialized in HR and have two years of work experience. This chapter provides rationale for the new program and presents evidence that it assists in cultivating workplace creativity among HR professionals.
