Since 1979, the mission of the critical and creative thinking (CCT) graduate program at the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) has been to develop reflective practitioners who can translate scholarly perspectives of critical and creative thought to practice in schools, organizations, and communities. The integrated approach to teaching critical and creative thinking provides graduates with a range of tools and perspectives for constructing solutions to diverse and complex challenges where clear best practices are not well-established. The program started as an interdisciplinary effort between psychology, philosophy, and education departments to support K-12 teachers in integrating critical thinking and creativity with pedagogy. Since then, CCT has evolved to serve a range of mid-career professionals in education and training, sciences and arts, activism, and organizational leadership.
