The purpose of this work is to lay the foundation for the preparatory phase of a discourse analysis of speeches related to the defense realm held by Chinese President Xi Jinping from 2012 to 2019, which were officially translated into English and collected in three volumes titled Xi Jinping: The Governance of China I, II and III. The aim is to screen the speeches chronologically to classify the words and terms related to national defense and combat preparedness and to detect discriminating terms using the NooJ platform and Voyant tools. This study shows that NooJ and Voyant Tools could be utilized jointly as complementary digital environments suitable for exploring political discourse.
