The Smart Terrace Trail as Strategic Regional Project
摘要
The “Smart Terrace Trail” concept is introduced as innovative approach to the enhancement of vineyard terraces, iconic to Valtellina but typical of many other rural mountain landscapes. The proposal leverages multitask walking, digital connectivity and agriculture resources for new ways of living and working and new styles of tourism. Elements such as coworking spaces, local gastronomy, and heritage preservation interventions can all be integrated into a unified sustainable and attractive framework for rural landscape revitalization. The focus is on disclosing the potential of ancient paths to support a new form of active healthy mobility integrated with creative working: “smartwalking” means walking while developing ideas, being inspired by the landscape and provided by continuous digital connection and plug-in opportunities diffused along the paths. The smart trail offers a spine for smart-worker facilities, combining outdoor and indoor spaces, benefiting both residents and tourists alike. This pilot project is aimed at the regeneration of mid-mountain regions (mild valleys often bypassed or abandoned because located below the altitude necessary to guarantee enough snow for ski domains): low-mid Valtellina can become a model for other regions looking to combine experiential tourism, health mobility, and heritage preservation in a way, tailored on the post-covid trends, that supports sustainable development across unique heritage landscapes.
