Lateral Torsional Buckling of Castellated Steel Beam with Tapered Web
摘要
A beam type known as a Castellated beam is created by cutting an I-beam longitudinally along the web in a pattern. The idea is to separate and reunite the beam in deeper webs by using the cutting pattern. A failure criterion for beams in flexure is called Lateral Torsional Buckling (LTB). This study’s main goal is to use ANSYS software to analyze the behavior of lateral torsional buckling in castellated beams. Furthermore, by maintaining the same opening ratio over the whole span, the study aims to examine the impact of torsion in castellated beams. For castellated steel beams with normal section and tapered portions at the ends that are 25, 50, and 75% shorter in height, lateral torsion analysis is performed. With simply supported beams, the evaluation of elastic lateral torsional buckling moments is performed for the identical beam sections while taking buckling loads and support circumstances into account.
