The study aims to find the relationship that exists between academic procrastination with a blend of emotional intelligence and also how irrational thinking has an influence on academic procrastination. More importantly, it seeks to explain in what way emotional intelligence can boost academic performance by decreasing procrastination. The current study uses descriptive methods of inquiry to review extant literature on emotional intelligence and academic procrastination to understand the impact of these two on academic success. These studies proves that people having high emotional intelligence show lower tendencies for academic procrastination and hence are better in academics. It also proved that changing irrational thoughts is something very important in reducing academic procrastination. As a result of these, the study recommends that educational institutions undertake a time management workshop specifically for effective organization and planning of academic activities as a means of curbing procrastination with improved academic achievement. The study further holds the view that it is very important to create an enabling environment that fosters and supports students as they build their self-esteem and confidence in various capacities to finish academic tasks.
