Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900–1944) met American journalist Silvia Hamilton in 1942. Before he left New York in April 1943, he offered her dozens of drawings and his manuscript of The Little Prince. In 1968, they were purchased by the Morgan Library and Museum. This manuscript written by Saint-Exupéry in 1942 is twice the size of the published version (New York, April 1943, in English and French; first publication in France in 1946) and numerous sections were left out by the author himself. This chapter focuses on information in the manuscript about Saint-Exupéry himself (his career, childhood memories) and the little prince’s life on his asteroid B612 before he began his interstellar voyage. Folio 141 for example contains original information about the life of the prince gardener on his planet absent from the published version. There is water on B612 (a tiny lake) in which the little prince takes a bath. He has a garden and is growing vegetables.
