In his book True North, Bill George reminds us that our lives and our leadership are all about being true to ourselves. True North, in his words, ‘is the internal compass that guides you successfully through life’. The main premise of his message is that leaders, like everyone else, are pursuing an ideal, responding to inner motivations that come from deep within. It is imperative to discover those motivations and use their inspiration to move our organizations forward with authenticity and profound determination. In my interpretation, the search is about finding the sources of your desire for liberation, to know where it comes from. With this in mind, the book concludes with a handful of reflections to build a liberation discovery process for leaders. Excelling as liberator. Designing what you are becoming. Choosing not to be the limit of the organization. Becoming the leader your North Star needs.
