Telehealth applications are particularly suited to use in the field of cardiovascular disease, since many forms of cardiovascular disease are chronic, and thus, regular follow-up and monitoring can be managed via telehealth solutions. Many patients with chronic cardiac disease are equipped with smart devices, which can enable transmission of vital data to healthcare providers, thus facilitating telehealth encounters. Monitoring of cardiovascular risk factors is also highly suited to telehealth applications. For acute or life-threatening presentations of cardiovascular disease, telehealth can be useful for forward-triage, to assess the degree of emergency and to enable pre-hospital diagnosis and active the catheterization laboratory. In this chapter, we summarize the potential uses of telehealth applications in four common cardiovascular situations, namely chest pain, tachycardia, dyspnoea and syncope. We review the challenges and opportunities of telehealth use in each of these situations.

摘要
