In enacting their various roles and responsibilities, academic deans interact with numerous stakeholders of their institutions. These stakeholders can be categorized as either internal or external stakeholders. The success of an academic dean and that of their institution will be determined by their ability to understand and, as appropriate, address the various expectations of their institution’s stakeholders. Successful academic deans recognize the importance of not only meeting but ideally exceeding the expectations of their institution’s stakeholders.
