This chapter focuses on a family dealing with the birth of a premature child with developmental delays. The family’s provision of home health care for a child with complex medical needs challenged its capacity to sustain its resilient social functioning. The maintenance of resilience was facilitated by a social worker who was part of a care sharing collective composed of the patient’s family and an integrated health care team that collaborated to combat caregiving stress. Narrative interviews illustrate the ways in which family-centered, resilience-enhancing practice was augmented by principles from general system theory and various schools of family therapy to support the family in remaining resilient.
