This chapter describes the core concept sense of coherence (SOC), in terms of definition, measurement, distribution, dimensionality and stability over time. The extensive evidence base of research after Antonovsky died, shows that SOC is a multidimensional and culturally sensitive life orientation. To date, the SOC questionnaire has been used in at least 73 countries all over the world. In addition to the two original questionnaires (SOC-29 and SOC-13) there are several modified ones, modified in the sense that the number of items included and the scoring alternatives vary. SOC seems to be relatively stable over time and seems to increase with age. SOC can be strengthened over the life course. Some new questionnaires measuring salutary factors and resistance resources are presented. A revised definition of the SOC is suggested.
