Revenge Tourism Post COVID-19: Analysing the Surge and Its Implications for the Travel Industry
摘要
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had severely impacted the tourism industry due to travel restrictions. As these restrictions eased, many people engaged in ‘revenge tourism’ to make up for lost time. This study examines the factors influencing the desire to travel and participate in revenge tourism post-pandemic, exploring the link between COVID-19 risk perception and compensatory travel intentions. Using quantitative analysis of self-administered questionnaires distributed via social media, the study found a significant rise in revenge tourism driven by the desire to reconnect with loved ones and seek new experiences. It also highlighted that pandemic-related anxiety and stress, influenced travellers’ emotional well-being, leading to a shift towards budget-friendly destinations and an increased focus on safety and health precautions. The study also highlighted the negative consequences of ‘revenge tourism’ in the long run and the implications to stakeholders for converting revenge tourism to ‘beautiful or sustainable tourism’.
