This research delves into the relationship between indigenous communities and the metaverse, specifically looking at how their social, economic, and cultural activities might be preserved in virtual spaces. The goal is to find ways to honour Indigenous peoples’ traditions and sovereignty while also integrating them into the metaverse in a way that benefits everyone. We will also look for ways to promote and preserve indigenous history. Helping indigenous communities make the most of the metaverse’s possibilities and avoid its pitfalls is the overarching goal of this research. To guarantee that virtual environments positively aid in the preservation and development of indigenous communities and cultures, it promotes inclusive and sustainable practices. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of digital technologies available to indigenous communities, including blockchain for digital sovereignty, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) for cultural preservation, and artificial intelligence (AI) for economic development. Tribe development in the metaverse can become an example of sustainability by paying attention to these details allowing for technological progress while also ensuring social responsibility, economic viability, and environmental protection. As augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) and other digital technologies collide with physically persistent virtual space, a new collective virtual shared place called the metaverse is born. Many new lines of inquiry can be opened up by investigating how this new digital environment can aid in the long-term prosperity of Indigenous people.
