摘要

Patient safety has become an issue of significant importance in the health sector, so national and international entities have extensively investigated the occurrence of adverse events and incidents in clinical practices to develop strategies to improve patient safety while also considering current trends. Such is the case of surgical procedures, which have increased over time; among the risks that occur in operating rooms are fires, which, despite being events that have a low incidence, are distressing and shocking events with possibly catastrophic consequences such as significant burns, inhalation injuries, infections, disfigurement, and death. This project presents the development of a program of prevention, protection, and reaction against operating room fires to reduce the exposure of patients and care staff to these fires, generating a significant advance in quality management and risk management, thus increasing the safety and quality of service provision. As research methodologies, qualitative and quantitative methods were used to carry out a diagnosis of the initial state of the institution in terms of prevention and the knowledge of the personnel about the subject to be treated, obtaining variables and indicators of vital importance for the development of the program, which was implemented through a series of pieces of training and a pilot test in the operating rooms of the institution; obtaining. As a result, a risk analysis of the institution, a complete program on prevention, reaction, evacuation, and the necessary material to train the personnel.
