Instagramming Kimchi: An Exploration of the Social Media Landscape of Korean Restaurants in Ankara
摘要
As an integral facet of the Korean Wave, Korean cuisine has seen a notable surge in popularity among the Turkish populace, particularly in Ankara, Türkiye's capital. This increase is evidenced by the rise of Korean restaurants, with at least three new establishments opening in recent years and many others incorporating Korean dishes into their menus. Recognising the power of social media, all three Korean restaurants in Ankara actively use Instagram to promote their businesses and act as cultural agents, sharing information about Korean culture with a particular emphasis on Korean cuisine. Against this backdrop, this chapter aims to shed light on Korean restaurants’ strategies on Instagram to engage with their customers in Ankara. By analysing data collected from these establishments’ Instagram accounts, we explore how the Korean Wave and cuisine are perceived, created, transformed, and reinterpreted within the Turkish context.
